As I watch the hail fall outside our storefront window,
My mind is somewhere outside in the distance somehow.
O the places I would go,
And the cool things I would do!
Some dreams birth and burst and linger,
Others plague the heart forever.
(And I pray that a few would fit inside your master plan,
As I know all things You uphold in the palm of your hand)
As I watch the rain fall outside our storefront window,
Your mind is focused on me on the wet earth below.
Time flies so quickly by,
Frantic people at twice the speed,
Passing ahead to future lies.
I sweep the dust they left behind.
Wave goodbye, wave Godspeed,
Follow your fortune cookie dreams.
What lies ahead they cannot see,
Around the corner to destiny.
At the bus stop in the rain,
Drenched and lonely beneath the clock.
Yet somehow I wait content,
Knowing the way it’s going to end.
Wave again to passer-by’s,
Bid farewell and watch them leave.
Soon enough they’re out of sight,
Thinking of you I close my eyes.
Don’t know when you’re going to come,
I will stand here, tall and true.
When I see you, I’ll leap and run
Into your love, into your arms.
Hope arise out of ashes
Gems arise out of trashes
Gold arise out of darkness
And jewels arise out of messes
Beauty arise out of chaos
Peace arise out of madness
Joy arise out of sadness
And laughter arise out of us
Love arise out of hearts
Praise arise from the arts
Worship arise from the earth
And God arise out of us
Courage arise from your people
Boldness arise in your saints
Mercy arise to crush the evil
And grace arise to dance
Faith arise out of children
Songs arise out of thanks
Power arise from the broken
And dreams arise from romance
As 2009 is upon us,
I thought it was fitting for me to post this photo on Love’s Rest to usher in the new year. The Lord spoke to me earlier this year that Mercer Island is to become “Mercy Island,” and we do ask God for His mercy to be released in greater measure this new year!
The children statues in this picture represent us living in the kingdom of God with child-like faith, wonder, and innocence. They also symbolize relationship, friendship, and intimacy, both vertical (with God) and horizontal (with each other).
The children statues sit upon this “stone” that is also a water fountain, how cool is that! We are to sit (rest) upon the Rock, the Cornerstone, which is Jesus Christ. The fountain water is a metaphor for the living water (eternal life) that flows from our Lord into each one of us, and into the world. And we are to build our house (our bodies which is the temple of God) on the Rock and not on the sand, so when the storm comes we are not shaken or destroyed.
The setting of the photo is on a street corner in “downtown” Mercer Island, which speaks of marketplace ministry. The trees and hill in the background speaks of God’s creation (the natural world), and Psalm 121:
“I lift my eyes up to the hills, where does my help come from? My help comes from the LORD, the maker of heaven and earth.”
We are to totally put our trust in the Lord, and unreservedly rely on Him, more than ever before, in the coming season.
Lastly, the wind and the bubbles. The bubbles represents dreams, imagination, and creativity. Let us dream big in Christ and see the fulfillment, this year and in years to come. The wind that is blowing the bubbles towards the children statues is the presence and power of the Holy Spirit, ministering to us, and helping us birth these dreams.
The wind of the Holy Spirit will carry us closer towards our callings and destinies in Jesus Christ! May you be blessed throughout 2009.
